This is one of a series of articles spotlighting our storage facilities and neighborhoods.
(This article was updated on September 20, 2016, to reflect the United States Postal Service’s updated address of this storage facility to 2964 Shell Road.)
When summertime rolls around and the normally quiet streets of Coney Island, Brooklyn grow packed with beach-goers and amusement-seekers, residents can find some extra room in one of our Coney Island CubeSmart self-storage facilities. While our Cropsey Avenue location is conveniently located right off the Belt Parkway, this CubeSmart self-storage facility on Shell Road may be even more convenient for Coney Island business owners downtown.

Our Customers' reviews help us make sure we're making your transitions as easy as possible:
- "I had the privilege of being helped by the manager, Niashia McDuffie. Her excellent customer service and personality made my visit easy and helpful. I have lived in the neighborhood for 38 years now and look forward to recommending my neighbors to this facility." – arosario21
- "This is a clean and modern facility with many excellent features. The customer experience is smooth and convenient. Every feature has been planned in detail, and nothing is done on the cheap. This is evident in the facility’s construction materials, cleanliness, security, lighting, automobile access, entrances, exits, movement within the facility, and company policies. The office staff is friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable." – cb48
How to Get to Us
For fellow beach bums, taking the bus to get to us couldn't be more convenient. The MTA B68 bus stops right outside our store at the intersection of Shell Road and Neptune Avenue. For train travelers, the F stops at Neptune Avenue, just two blocks from our store; otherwise, the F and Q stop at West 8th Street and the F, Q, D, and N stop at Coney Island – Stilwell Avenue. Both stops are less than half a mile from CubeSmart.
Where better to destress after a move than an amusement park on the beach? In just a hop, skip and jump you're at Riegelmann Boardwalk for classic boardwalk food and amusements, like Nathan's Famous Hot Dog Stand and Luna Park. Make sure to stop at the new Ford Amphitheater at the Coney Island Boardwalk. This 5,000-seat venue incorporates a brand new, covered amphitheater as well as the Childs Building, a Coney Island landmark since 1923 and one of the first and largest restaurants in the country. Sting, Peter Gabriel, The Beach Boys, Fifth Harmony, and The Avett Brothers are just a few of the performers you can expect to rock out with here.
Less than a 10-minute walk from our CubeSmart store is the New York Aquarium; another fun spot at Coney Island featuring Glover's Reef and the Conservation Hall for the smaller sea creatures. Experience feeding a penguin or walrus at the Sea Cliffs and watch a show at the Aquatheater. End the adventure with a visit to the Sand Tiger Sharks. On second thought, maybe skip the sharks if you're planning on a dip in the Atlantic any time soon!
Don't be fooled by the cute rides and games; many of Coney Island's traditions are grounded in serious competition. The original Nathan's Famous right on the boardwalk is host to the Nathan's Famous Hot Dog Eating Contest—it recently celebrated its 100th anniversary! Thousands of people swarm the original location at the corner of Surf and Stillwell Avenue each year to watch hot dog eating legends stuff their faces with the American classic. Not for the squirmy, it can be uncomfortable and rather disgusting to watch the spectacle, at times, but also amazing to see the numbers of hot dogs finally eaten when time is up.
For a friendlier competition, head to the beach for the annual Coney Island Sand Sculpting Contest. Nearly 4,000 people attend to watch as professional sculptors create amazing structures for display and amateurs shape and carve all day in competition for cash prizes.
If boardwalk food doesn't cut it for you and you're craving a taste of the islands, our Coney Island CubeSmart teammate, Lisa James, recommends Suede. Just 20 minutes from our Shell Road location, they offer eclectic dishes like Oxtail Pizza and Pumpkin Callaloo Soup. They can accommodate large groups for a post-move celebration.
Lisa also loves Piquant Restaurant and Bar in the Prospect Heights neighborhood, a little over 20 minutes from our store. Featuring "modern cuisine of the American Southwest" and a mouth-watering brunch menu, Piquant is a great option for treating yourself to a special meal after a day of moving.
