Those old books, photo albums, and journals you have stored away are sources of inspiration, if not simply a means of distraction. Attitude is almost more important than what happens to you.\u201d <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Share the love, analog-style.<\/strong> So, you\u2019ve stumbled across a pic of you and your college roommate at a tailgate circa 2001. Put that magic in an envelope with a note. Reaching out to a friend is not only an act of kindness that will brighten someone\u2019s day, it\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mayoclinic.org\/healthy-lifestyle\/adult-health\/in-depth\/friendships\/art-20044860\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\">also good for your health<\/a>! Feeling connected to friends helps boost your happiness and eases stress. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Get those toys back in\ncirculation.<\/strong>&nbsp;Out of sight, out of mind applies first and foremost to\nkids and toys. If you&#8217;ve got&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cubesmart.com\/blog\/post\/13-classic-toys-from-your-childhood-that-you-should-put-in-storage\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">classic\ntoys from your childhood in storage<\/a>, now is the time to pull them out for the\nnext generation. Chances are good the kids will be delighted either by the\nantiquities of yore you&#8217;ve packed away&nbsp;or&nbsp;the chance to make\nfun of mom and dad for what passed as entertainment in the analog days. We can either embrace the jammies, the streaming services, and the thrice-daily nap routine, or we can write the next great American novel, build that pergola we\u2019ve been thinking about, and become an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbc.com\/american-ninja-warrior\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\">American Ninja Warrior<\/a>. While many of us may ricochet between the two and find ourselves disappointed in all outcomes, there is a middle path! Keep these tips in mind to help carve out your own mix of productivity and idleness. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Adjust your metrics.<\/strong> How do you measure productivity? It could be the benchmarks you\u2019ve used in the past aren\u2019t applicable. Six months ago, productivity may have meant a Pilates class, six hours of meetings, and either kids\u2019 soccer practice or a happy hour. As those options aren\u2019t available to you now, reconsider what you put in your \u201cactivities\u201d column. Reading a book with your kiddo or listening to a <a href=\"https:\/\/podcasts.apple.com\/us\/podcast\/following-harriet\/id1483073168\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\">podcast on Harriet Tubman<\/a> may be your new markers of accomplishment. And the only way there is anything wrong with that is if you deem such activities as a waste of your time. Reframe your thinking from measuring \u201coutput\u201d to measuring the value of an activity in your life. This refocus will also help you <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/thriveglobal.com\/stories\/your-productivity-does-not-determine-your-self-worth\/\" target=\"_blank\">consider how you want to feel, not just what you want to accomplish<\/a>. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Disconnect\nyour productivity from your self-worth.<\/strong> Let\u2019s face it, we are often\nmeasured by our accomplishments and how busy we appear, reinforcing the sense\nthat our purpose and worth is tied to our productivity. This equation is akin\nto the photo-shopped fitness magazine covers we see all the time. Give yourself\na mental makeover and <a href=\"https:\/\/thoughtcatalog.com\/amanda-van-slyke\/2017\/05\/you-are-worth-more-than-how-productive-you-were-today\/\">let\ngo of unrealistic expectations<\/a>, be they centered on abs of steel or\nunlimited productivity no matter the circumstances. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Baby steps<\/strong>. If you need some extra help finding your middle road, consider giving yourself a small task to tackle each day. (Note the word \u201ctackle\u201d in place of \u201caccomplish.\u201d) Try to ground those tasks in things you value. Friends and family? Write a heartfelt email. Creativity? Do some sketching or <a href=\"https:\/\/becomeawritertoday.com\/writing-prompts-free\/\">free-writing<\/a>. Learning? Try a free online course via <a href=\"https:\/\/www.khanacademy.org\/\">Kahn Academy<\/a>. Start with small, unintimidating increments of time and work your way up. Don\u2019t forget the power of the space around you. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cubesmart.com\/blog\/post\/how-to-make-your-home-the-perfect-space-for-one\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\">Organizing and decluttering<\/a> your physical space can be invigorating and is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.psychologytoday.com\/us\/blog\/in-practice\/201802\/6-benefits-uncluttered-space\">also shown to reduce anxiety<\/a>. Not to mention it can help that home feel like a palace again! <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Finally, take things one day at a time. Whether you are\nreframing old photos or reframing your views on what makes you productive these\ndays, be kind to yourself.
