A final option is taking\na critical look at the other rooms in your home. Has that guest bedroom been\nused a grand total of 2 times in 10 years? Have you ever had a meal in the\nformal dining room? You get where I\u2019m going with this. Don\u2019t be afraid to do\naway with traditional notions of what rooms belong in a home in favor of the\nrooms you\u2019ll truly use and enjoy. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Music Room Tip 2: Sound PROOF, there it is!<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

No matter the space you select for your music room, I would like\nto go on the record that I, at this moment, strongly encouraged you to\nsoundproof it. I know some of you out there may be thinking soundproof,\nschmoundproof; it\u2019ll be fine. To you I say, oh please listen to my wise words.\nBecause they come from so much experience. For as long as I could remember, my\ndad played in a blues band and that band practiced in the basement of our\nhouse. They still do, decades later. And it\u2019s still loud. Like, no one can\nsleep, watch TV, or have a real conversation loud. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Soundproofing isn’t pretty but it’s a necessary step in some homes.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Sound carries through the\nair and through structures via vibrations. Even if you don\u2019t plan on blasting\n\u201cBoogie Woogie Woman\u201d at Spinal Tap volume 11 in your music room, the sound and vibration will\ncarry throughout your home. The best way to reduce both is by installing\nmaterials in your walls. That often involves tearing down drywall, adding\ncotton batt, fiberglass, or specific soundproof insulation, and re-drywalling.\nIf your music room\nis in a shed or unfinished basement, this may be a perfect time to not only\nsoundproof but ensure your space is comfortable in all seasons. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

If tearing down drywall\nis definitely not in your plans, there are a few other approaches you can take\nto soundproofing. For an instant and effective solution, you can always cover\nwalls with thick blankets or quilts. Moving pads make excellent music room sound\ndampeners. The next option up in cost and time is installing soundproof\nmaterials. There is a range of materials<\/a> you\ncan use to block sound including foam, fiberglass and an array of fabrics.
