The good news is that with a little\nimagination \u2013 and, of course, the hacks listed below \u2013 you can maximize\nwhatever square footage you\u2019re working with to have a slamming party. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So don\u2019t be scared of having an engagement party, baby\nshower, summer dance-off or \u2018rent the fight\u2019 night \u2013 or all of the above \u2013 in\nyour abode, even if space is limited. Discard the misbelief that the only\npeople who get to have parties are people with giant homes and share what\nyou\u2019ve got with your friends. We can pretty much guarantee that they\u2019ll be\nhappy to have been included, and will be nothing but impressed with what you\u2019ve\nmanaged to pull off.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>1. Keep it Simple!<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cubesmart.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/game-night.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-19623\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">You don&#8217;t need tons of space to host a great party, but you do need to organize a little.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Our number one tip is number one for a reason: We think you can get maximum impact out of your small space by minimizing your d\u00e9cor. A cluttered space will make for a cluttered experience for your partygoers. So pack it up and move it on out into a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cubesmart.com\/\">temporary storage unit<\/a> in the week before your get-together. We\u2019re talking wall hangings, throw pillows, anything and everything on your coffee table, bulk boxes of granola bars, stacks of towels \u2013 you name it. If you can move it out of your house or apartment with minimal effort, get it out of there.&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Once you\u2019ve got your space decluttered, think about how\nyou can create unity in the pieces that are left. Make sure any decorations are\ncoordinated and just incorporate two or three colors within the plates,\nnapkins, and other party accoutrement. On the day of the party, have a game\nplan for coats and bags in another room (or on the bed in a studio apartment)\nso nothing interrupts your feng shui!&nbsp;&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While you\u2019re at it, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cubesmart.com\/blog\/your-space\/cleaning\/easy-ways-to-clean-and-organize-a-refrigerator\/\">clean out and organize your\nrefrigerator<\/a> as well.\nYou\u2019ll want to make space for drinks and mixers, as well as any chilled\nberries, meats or cheeses you might be serving. Nothing causes more chaos than\na platter of appetizers slipping out&nbsp; of\na fridge at the beginning of a party. Ask me how I know.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>2. Reorganize Your\nFurniture<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Hack #2 involves a little bit of elbow grease, so if you live alone \u2013 now is the time to enlist the help of a few trusted invitees. Ask your pals to help shift all of the furniture (even ottomans and coffee tables) around to the edges of the room in small groupings. Try to include some sort of level surface for a drink or appetizer plate along with the seats. But don\u2019t stress out if you don\u2019t have many chairs. Party planners say to estimate that only about one-third of your guests will be sitting at any one time. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You\u2019re also going to want to move any furniture that\u2019s\nobstructing a direct path from the door to the party and anything unnecessary\nin the bathroom or kitchen (like stools or hampers). Some people even store\ntheir rugs to avoid slipping hazards and make the inevitable clean-ups easier. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>By getting everything off to the perimeter (or even off\nthe premises, if necessary) you\u2019ll create plenty of open space in the center of\nthe room for dancing or mingling and cozy spots on the side for intimate chats.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>3. Function Over Fashion<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>One of our favorite small space party hacks involves\nreassessing and repurposing what\u2019s already in your home rather than running out\nto buy something new (tempting as it may be). Think multi-functionally about\nwhat you have. Here are some quick examples&nbsp;\nthat might work:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Use your sink or bathtub for canned or bottled beverages;<\/strong> plug the drain, fill it with ice and voila! Cold drinks on demand \u2013 and no bulky cooler on the ground.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Repurpose a high-top table or counter as the drinks station. <\/strong>Party planners suggest moving the drinks away from the food for better flow, so setting up at&nbsp; a small area is perfect.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Incorporate compostable elements from the outdoors as party decor, <\/strong>such as pumpkins, flowers, and evergreen boughs. What may look plain or ordinary outside takes on new interest once you bring it in.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cubesmart.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/party.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-19624\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Embrace the space you have and work with it&#8217;s quirks for decor.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>You don\u2019t have to throw down a bunch of money to make a party in a small space spectacular. Challenge yourself to \u201cwork with what you\u2019ve got.\u201d Sure, it might not look as flashy as something bought new, but it\u2019s better on your wallet \u2013 and on Mother Earth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>4. Spread Out the Apps<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>By now, everyone is used to the ubiquitous \u201cmeat and\ncheese\u201d plates. And for good reason: they\u2019re tasty, they\u2019re filling, they offer\ninfinite variety and they\u2019re easy to eat while standing and talking. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Another great thing about meat or cheese boards (or\n\u201ccharcuterie\u201d if you want to get fancy) is that, unlike buffets, you don\u2019t have\nto keep everything in the same spot. You can divide them up on different\ncutting boards or serving platters and put several \u201cmini appetizer stations\u201d\naround the room. This minimizes everyone gathering at the same spot (generally\nthe spot with the food, we\u2019re a predictable species) and jamming up the vibe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you don\u2019t have much room for food at the \u201cmini\nstations,\u201d consider using tall pedestals or stands on tabletops. It will\namplify the delivery by using vertical space rather than horizontal. Remember\nto stock small, compostable plates and napkins near the food too, along with\nplenty of tongs, spoons and any other serving utensils that might come in\nhandy.&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Party planning professionals say to estimate between 10\nand 12 appetizers per guest (if no formal dinner will be served), so err on the\nside of too much. Smoked meats, cheeses and crackers all have pretty great\nshelf lives, so make sure you have storage containers at the ready to pack away\nany extra at the end of the night.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>5. Move it Outside<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cubesmart.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/this-way-fence.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-19625\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Have an outdoor option, like a rooftop garden or back patio? Use it!<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Last but never least, our number five small space party\nhosting hack is to get outside at some point during the affair. It doesn\u2019t have\nto be everyone at once, and it doesn\u2019t have to be available the entire time,\nbut if there\u2019s any way to access an outdoor area, your guests will appreciate\nit.&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Just as we recommended above that it can be interesting to\nbring outdoors elements in, it can be interesting to bring indoors elements <em>out<\/em>. Think upholstered chairs, rugs,\ntapestries, bean bags and coffee tables. Of course, most people would be happy\nwith a simple deck or yard area with a few seating options, a little lighting\nand maybe some music, so don\u2019t knock yourself too far out. At the same time,\nadding a little ambiance or flair can really make it special. After all, who\ndoesn\u2019t love a good strand of holiday lights? <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In terms of drinks and food, it\u2019s a good idea to have a\nsmall station set up with a limited selection of beverages, but we\u2019d leave the\nfood indoors. Too many creepy crawlies. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Also be aware of your neighbors. In fact, if you think your party might be a loud one \u2013 or go on until the morning hours \u2013 talk to them beforehand. Everyone is a lot more reasonable about noise when they haven\u2019t been surprised by it. Now that you know exactly how to host a successful party in a small space, get to it. Leave your bashfulness about your home behind, and get ready to have fun with your friends.
