Check tire pressure and inflate all tires (don\u2019t forget\nthe spare) to recommended levels. Driving on underinflated tires can cause poor\nhandling and damage, including possible blowouts and accidents. Also be sure to\ncheck for signs of wear. Depending on their condition, you may want to purchase\nnew tires for the season. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Inspect Exterior: <\/strong>Visually inspect the exterior of your RV or camper for cracks, damage\nor leaks. Apply or replace any seals or weatherstripping as needed around\nwindows, doors and other seams. If your RV was stored outdoors, pay particular\nattention to the roof for potential leaks, structural damage or seam cracks because\nof snow accumulation. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Charge &amp; Reinstall\nBatteries: <\/strong>Before hitting the\nroad, check the charge on your batteries. If they are less than fully charged,\nyou\u2019ll want to get out the battery charger. If you\u2019re uncomfortable with\nchecking and installing your battery on your own, it\u2019s best to <a href=\"https:\/\/koa.com\/blog\/six-tips-for-choosing-a-good-rv-mechanic-or-repair-shop\/\">contact an RV maintenance service to help<\/a>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Flush &amp; Sanitize the\nWater System: <\/strong>As part of the winter\nstorage process, you might have added antifreeze to your water pipes. Now is\nthe time to flush the antifreeze to ensure your water is clean and safe to\ndrink while on the road. After flushing the water system, you want to sanitize\nto remove any bacteria or mold that might have grown during the months in\nstorage.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Check for Leaky Pipes:\n<\/strong>One final step in preparing your RV water system for\ntravel is checking for leaky pipes in the plumbing. With water in the\nfreshwater tank, turn on the electric pump and allow it to pressurize the water\nsystem. The pump will shut off when it reaches full pressure. Listen for\nseveral minutes to hear if the pump turns on again. If it does or doesn\u2019t shut\noff at all, you have a leak somewhere. Find your leak under sinks, around the\nedge of toilets or by checking the pipe system. Leaks inside the RV or camper\ncan cause water damage if left unaddressed.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Change Filters: <\/strong>Install new filters for your water and air systems, as they can collect\na lot of dust and debris during a busy travel and camping season. Clean filters\nalso help your systems run more efficiently and cut down on energy usage. Ensure\nyou purchase and install the right size filters for your systems.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Test Appliances &amp;\nGenerator: <\/strong>You also want to test\nyour appliances and RV generator. For gas-powered appliances, ensure you have\nrefilled and reinstalled your propane tanks. For electrical appliances, plug in\nyour RV to test things such as ACs and microwaves. Ensure you\u2019re using a\nsufficient source of energy of 30 or 50 amps, or bigger appliances may not run\nproperly. Before testing your onboard generator, check its oil level and the\nexhaust system for damage. After this inspection, turn on the generator to\ntest. If your generator surges or won\u2019t start, take it in for further\ninspection and repairs.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Restock First Aid\n&amp; Emergency Supplies: <\/strong>Don\u2019t forget to stock\nup your emergency and first aid supplies. Check expiration dates on medications\nand throw out any expired dry food. Also make sure you have a healthy supply of\nbottled water in case of emergency. When washing your rig, always start at the top and work your way\ndown, taking care to use a cleaner that won\u2019t harm the paneling.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Critter\nCheck:<\/strong>&nbsp;Winter is long and cold. Inspect your camper for any bugs, spiders, mice or other critters\nthat may have taken up residence during storage. Check all the nooks and\ncrannies, including your water heater, refrigerator drawers and cabinets.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Clean\nfans and air conditioners:<\/strong>&nbsp;Keep fresh air flowing while on the road. Use\nwarm, soapy water to clean fan blades and screens. For a thorough clean, take\nthe fan apart and wash each component separately. Clean the fan housing with an\nall-purpose cleaning spray and cloth.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Wash\nwindows &amp; screens:<\/strong>&nbsp;Remove all window screens and gently clean\nthem with soapy water.
