With the weather quickly warming up, beach season is upon us once again. This year, instead of throwing everything you don’t need into a bag last minute, use our beach packing guide to make sure you have all of your beach essentials to get to the sun-soaked sand as quickly as possible.
What should I bring to the beach?
1. Waterproof Sunblock
Sunblock is a must when it comes to the beach because of its SPF properties. You want to make sure you’re protecting your skin from harmful UV rays and sunburn by using a high SPF sunscreen. But if it’s not waterproof, it’s not much good. Make sure you save your skin from the sun after you take a dip in the water.
2. Towels
Bring two towels, just to be safe. You don’t know when one will get soaked through, and you can always use one of them to protect your seats from getting wet and sandy when you leave.

3. Folding Chairs
Pull your folding chair out of your storage unit so that you can sit back, relax, and enjoy a good book at the beach. Although you can sit on a towel, it’s far more comfortable to use a chair. If you want a lighter load to carry to the beach, check out inflatable beach chairs. It’s a comfortable option to replace your typical beach chair.
4. Extra Set of Clothes
Similar to the towels, it’s better to be safe than sorry. An extra set of clothes guarantees a dry, comfortable trip home or wherever your next destination may be.
5. Food and Water
Pack lots of water to prepare for soaking up the sun all day. The salty ocean water will not do anything to hydrate you. Keep the cost of your beach trip down by bringing lunch with you. Bring a sandwich, fresh fruit, and chips, just remember to pack it up well so that no sand gets near it! And, remember all that water you brought with you? It’s also handy cleaning off sandy hands before lunchtime.
6. Beach Cooler
When the sun is beaming down on you, pulling out a cold, refreshing drink or juicy fruits is one of the best feelings during a beach trip. Beyond the feeling of cool refreshments, bringing a cooler ensures your food won’t spoil. Beach coolers are practical and essential, so make sure you don’t forget yours!
7. Beach Shoes
No matter how cute a pair of wedges may look, make sure to bring practical beach shoes (bonus points if they’re waterproof!). Grab flip flops, sandals, or some slip-on shoes to protect your feet from the hot sand.
What Do My Kids Need at the Beach?
1. Beach Tent or Umbrella for Shade
When kids are young, their skin is especially vulnerable to the harmful UV rays. Be sure to have an area they can lie down in the shade. Make sure you reapply sunscreen on your kids throughout the day.

2. Floaties
If your child doesn’t know how to swim, or isn’t a strong swimmer just yet, pack some floaties (or a life vest) so they can play in the water with everyone else.
3. Sand Toys
Watch as sandcastles and empires grow, surrounded by moats dug by their hand shovels. Toys can keep the kids happy occupied for hours.
It may not be practical to have all your seasonal gear in your house year-round, taking up space. Whether you’re dropping off winter and spring sports equipment, or picking up your beach gear, consider a unit at your nearest CubeSmart Self Storage to avoid unnecessary clutter.
