It seems like so long ago, and then it seems like just yesterday. More than five years ago, CubeSmart didn’t exist. You would have known us as U-Store-It. We are celebrating the fifth anniversary of the rebrand from U-Store-It to CubeSmart. It was much more than a name change. We wanted to change self-storage. Our old name put the service responsibility on the customer: YOU store it. YOU do it. YOU handle it. We made a brand promise with CubeSmart that is much broader, more positive, and more focused on the customer than was with U-Store-It.
…And my, how things have changed. Here is a list of ten interesting and fun facts about CubeSmart you may not have known.
- CubeSmart made it its mission to “simplify the organizational and logistical challenges created by the many life events and business needs of our Customers – through innovative solutions, unparalleled service, and genuine care.” We meant it. CubeSmart has been recognized as the standout service provider in our industry with numerous customer service awards since 2011.
- Our storage facilities were clean and well-maintained while we were U-Store-It, but after becoming CubeSmart we made some changes. We renovated many of our store offices making them bright, modern, and professional to ensure that your first experience with CubeSmart is a positive one that matches the service you receive from our team.
- We are growing. Convenient self-storage is important to our customers. You need to be able to access your belongings easily and when you need them. With more locations, we have made CubeSmart more accessible to thousands of customers, enabling us to better take care of you and your things.
- Our Customer Service and Sales Center hours of operation have been extended so that we are better able to provide help over the phone with reserving a storage unit, answering questions, and helping customers outside of regular business hours.
- Our website design has evolved to better serve you by making it easier to find the perfect self-storage unit for you and near you.
- Before the internet era, you may have seen this little guy in a newspaper ad or in the Yellow Pages advertising for U-Store-It. Remember the phonebook?
- U-Store-It was headquartered in Ohio before making the move to Pennsylvania in 2008.
- In the 2010 movie adaptation of Eat, Pray, Love, Liz Gilbert – portrayed by actress Julia Roberts – puts her life into a storage unit before beginning her adventure to find herself. Her storage unit was located at U-Store-It, now CubeSmart Self-Storage in Linden Hill New Jersey
- Did you know CubeSmart has a mascot? We sure do. Meet Cubie! Cubie was introduced after the rebrand. Be on the look out for him at local community events or CubeSmart grand opening events.
- CubeSmart headquarters (hCube), which opened in 2013, is no ordinary headquarters. It is also a fully functioning storage facility.
It has been an exciting five years and it means a tremendous amount to us to be able to share this milestone with you! We can’t wait to see what the next five years has “in store” for us.
