This is one of a series of articles spotlighting our storage facilities and neighborhoods.
With unique restaurants and impressive street fairs, Jamaica, Queens is known as one of New York City’s most culturally rich neighborhoods. With rents soaring in Manhattan and Brooklyn, New Yorkers are looking at Queens for affordable housing options. Though not often associated with its many colleges and significant student population, the neighborhood comes alive September through May while classes are in session at York College and St. John’s University. When exams finally end and dorms have been packed up, college students can use CubeSmart self-storage to store their furniture, clothing, and school supplies for the summer.
Storage in Jamaica, Queens is easy because you’re never far from one of our stores. While you can find us on 94th Avenue and along Jamaica Avenue in the Hollis neighborhood, St. John’s University students choose our location between 179th Place and 180th Street on Jamaica Avenue, because of the “super service in a close to campus facility on the way to the airport,” as said by customer Gigi1221 in a review for the store.
We have a bilingual manager to help you find the right storage option and a free Super Move truck and driver to bring your belongings from your apartment to our store. There are lobby workstations with free Wi-Fi and professional shredding so you can get rid of any bills, leases, or old assignments (or tests Mom and Dad don’t need to see). Our facilities always provide 24-hour video-recording, and this store also offers temperature monitoring and individual lighting and electricity in your unit.
Here’s what our recent customers have to say about our Jamaica Avenue CubeSmart:
“Very accessible operating hours, great location, and clean building” – Idelle221
“Great experience and great crew members. Very helpful” – Mony1
Jamaica Apartments vs. Storage Cost Analysis
Even if you’re not a college student, our Jamaica Avenue CubeSmart self-storage facility is a great solution for getting that extra storage space you need at a fraction of the cost per square foot of Queens apartments.
Less than 10 minutes from our Jamaica Avenue CubeSmart, a 1-bedroom apartment rental starts at $1,875 for 740 square feet while a 2-bedroom starts at $2,500 for 1,000 square feet. For that one extra bedroom in an apartment in the same building, you’ll pay an additional $625 every month. If you are looking for an extra bedroom as a means of storage and not for a roommate, you could instead save over $400 a month by renting a 10×10 climate-controlled storage unit at CubeSmart. For just $197.10 a month (as of 8/3/16), a 10×10 climate-controlled storage unit fits the contents of a standard 2-bedroom apartment. You can keep your 1-bedroom Jamaica apartment, and conveniently store seasonal items, clothing, mementos, and more in CubeSmart self-storage. No need to spend the money each month for more apartment square footage.
