A. There are many ways to organize a 10×10 storage unit. We recommend planning in advance how your items will fit in the unit. (Be sure to leave room for an aisle in the center.) Many of our customers use freestanding shelves to maximize vertical space. You can also try storing your mattresses or sofas on end. Any items that you plan on accessing frequently should be stored near the front of the unit.

What types of boxes or containers should I use in a 10×10 storage unit?
A. We generally recommend either stackable plastic bins or cardboard boxes for storage. Always put the heaviest bins and boxes on the bottom and be sure to label them on all sides. If you’re planning on storing something a bit more delicate, look for specialty boxes (including acid-free versions) and breathable containers. If you’re in need of brand new, clean and sturdy boxes, all CubeSmart locations sell boxes of all sizes, along with packing tape and other moving supplies.
Q. Do 10×10 storage units come with lights or shelves?
A. The 10×10 storage units at CubeSmart are completely empty on the inside – ready for your creative touch! In addition to using freestanding shelves, it might be useful to add battery-powered lights to your unit. Another option is to bring a battery-powered lantern or flashlight with you when you plan on spending any amount of time in the unit or are searching for something particular.

A. A 10-x10 storage unit can hold around 200 file boxes. It’s always a good idea to use pallets or 2x4s to make sure they’re up off of the floor – especially if you use cardboard boxes.
