First of all, Tammy and Carlos at the North Chicago Cube Smart provide great service. They are very helpful and customer-oriented. The reason for this rating is the price increases (that I am guessing come from corporate). Not only were there double-digit price increases, but they occurred at less than 12-month intervals. This was my experience for a 10X15 unit: Sep 2020: $97 (Price after their introductory offer) Sep 2021: $114 (17.5% increase). Then, 9 months later... May 2022: $135 (18.4% increase = 24.6% annualized) April 2023: $153.00 (13.3% increase = 14.5% annualized) ...and for a 10X10 unit: Jun 2021: $76 (Price after their introductory offer) May 2022: $90 (18.4% increase = 20.1% annualized) Apr 2023: $101 (12.2% increase = 13.3% annualized) I am a customer who used autopay and never got a late charge. This is how Cube Smart treats their most loyal customers (until they get fed up like I did and are no longer customers). I have since been able to consolidate everything into one unit at another site, closer to where I now live and I pay $99 monthly (and this is NOT an introductory price)!

Cube Smart Storage North Chicago IL was fairly competitively priced although there are much expensive storage facilities in the area. However initially when I agreed to use this dump because they offered a price - but then jacked it up 24% in three months. Therefore, I will be posting alternative companies to use for storage that are much more economical, vermin free, cleaner and offer more for your money without the hassle.

My rent is now $100 more a month from when I got this storage unit. You'd think they'd reward loyalty. The lady that is working there now that Zena left has no follow through at all. She told me she'd get back to me the next day about automatic charges I never authorized and 2 weeks later I still hadn't recieved an answer. First impressions were good but now it’s not well maintained. Elevators don’t work and it needs a facelift. Well, I have received this survey less than 24 hrs after I rented. So I can only comment on the booking part. I did not book through CubeSmart directly because there were offers available through marketing partners that saved me 35% off of CubeSmarts best offer. So far the check-in process has been good. The facility seems safe, secure, and clean. So we'll see.

I would give a higher review however cube smart still owns me $34. I didn't have to use their locks and returned them. I was told that money would be returned for paying for the locks. However, I got nothing. The next time I talked to them, the worker told me that the check might be processing and take a little while. After a few months I didn't get the check so I went back again and was told that they are unable to process money back. Well why was I told I would in the beginning, I would have just kept the locks for myself.

Given the present atmosphere of our society, it awoke an unresolved issue that occurred when I visited this storage establishment in Dec 2019. Honestly, if I could rate in the negatives I would, but please let share my experience with you. I am proud to be an American, I wasn’t born here but immigrated and I proudly serve and defend this beautiful country I call home. However, I visited this establishment back in December to seek storage before going on vacation, during that week I made two reservations. On the day of reservations, I received a call the representative working there and was told I have two reservations which one I would like to keep, I said I’m a few minutes up the road when I get there, I’ll take the one with the better deal. When I got there I met an elderly Caucasian woman, we spoke I waited for a while then we went to look at the storage space to see if it was satisfactory for me, I said yes we returned to the office and began paperwork, she drew up the contract and I read it before signing. After reading I asked about the price and asked which of the deals was this, she said the last one I booked, I then asked about the one I reserved earlier that month if I can take a look at that one, she said to me no when I made the reservation it deleted that one, I said ma’am I have been storing with this company for a while and that has never happened before is this something new, she said I don’t know, she was visibly getting upset, to begin with, from the moment I entered her attitude wasn’t the best but all I was trying to do was secure storage and be on my way. I was about to sign but I asked another question and to be honest, at this point I can’t remember exactly what it was. After I asked the question the representative sighted and said to you should probably look for storage elsewhere, I was dumbfounded and shocked by the words I just heard my mouth fell open, there was an awkward pause for a few seconds. I smiled gathered my stuff, said thank you, and left the building. I went to my car called the main office and they gave me the number for the district manager I called his number multiple times that day. I was shaking and couldn’t believe the service I just received and was completely baffled as to why. I left the country a few days later when I returned, I got a voice mail from the person I was trying to reach, I called the number yet again and left another voicemail, have not heard back anything since. This was my experience and it scared me deeply.

Since change of ownership, this place has demonstrated the most atrocious billing practices. I'd stay away, or you will be wasting a ton of time just paying their bill on time. Our payments are on auto-pay, always sent on the same date, yet somehow we receive constant, erroneous late notices before due date; late payments for an increase we never heard about; even a threatening notices of eviction! All sent to a customer who has sent the check monthly, on time, and for a couple of years. Dealing with all this nonsense is soooo annoying and time consuming. Just go elsewhere, peacefully pay and never hear from a place.

This location wouldn't honor offer of another just a few miles away; office hours very short on Sundays; regular weekday (female) manager is great; the (Boy)man there on weekends conveys attitude of ZERO interest in how he, the location, or the company are perceived ~ he behaves as if anyone who expects him to Do Anything is creating a huge burden on him ~ "can't this wait until Monday?" On a recent Sunday he looked directly at me and said their lock has been removed from the second smaller unit I needed to add to my account when I asked in person to have that done so I could access it as soon as I finished at original unit in another bldg. Upon reaching new unit, CSS lock STILL on it; office closed; boy/man gone. Called CS number, explained problem (and reasons it was a Much Bigger problem than it seems at face value). Almost 2 HOHRS later the same boy/man showed up to remove CSS lock from unit I paid to have. Instead of apology for inconveniencing ME & My daughter (whose newborn was now way past feeding time); he demanded to know why I "had to wreck his night by Making him come back ~ like waiting one more day would matter [to me/us]" It DID matter very much & that Fact doesn't change that the only reason he was called to return is bc he did NOT do what he looked right at me and said he did (remove lock from my new unit) If the boy/man covering weekends found a job elsewhere with less Responsiblity & no need to interact with other humans, and he was replaced by someone even half as wonderful as the lady who originally helped me & who is there during the week, I'd give 5 PLUS stars! Excellent value, clean units, convenient locations. Highly recommend Cube Storage both North Chicago & Libertyville locations

The storage unit was awesome and i had no complaints about it. When i moved out I was helped by a gentleman named Anthony and he was also extremely kind and helped me out with anything I needed. Let me preface this: Jennifer, one of the managers, is awesome. She is helpful, responsive and very kind. She does her absolute best to make sure everyone has a good experience. That being said, there is another manager over here, Tammy who is the exact opposite. In addition, the facility is a disaster. I recently opened up my storage unit to find EVERYTHING covered in MOLD. There were visible water tracks (at least a foot wide on two of them) running from the ceiling to the floor. When I reported this to Tammy, she not only tried to tell me it was my fault, but also said that the water was coming up through the floor and not their fault. How pray tell, does water come up from the floor and coat chairs that will grow mold that are off the floor and 4 feet tall?! About two hours later, Tammy was unable (unwilling) to help me sort out the issue, unable (unwilling) to provide a copy of the incident report she filed, and unable (unwilling) to provide any follow up at all. After printing out a copy of the contract I signed, Tammy pointed out that the contract I signed clearly stated she was not liable. Not only that, but that I accepted the unit in AS IS condition. Meaning that if there was water there, they did not have to tell me. Further, if I couldn't see it, then it was my problem. She also pointed out that the contract says that Cubesmart is not liable for Water, Fire, Mold, Mildew Etc even if it is Cubesmart's NEGLIGENCE that leads to those conditions. Its absolutely absurd. There are tons of storage units in the area. Spend a few extra dollars and go ANYWHERE else.

Be careful! Our experience was excellent at first as we received a very kind courtesy call before moving our stuff. However, my high reviews were quickly brought down when, upon arrival, we were informed that the rate we were quoted did not include mandatory insurance. That meant we were to pay an extra $12 per month. Finally, they offered us to waive the insurance requirement if we showed them proof of our homeowners insurance. It took an additional hour to show proof, but eventually we were able. Customers never like unpleasant surprises; especially additional costs. That needs to be addressed if they want a 5 star rating.

Even though the truck I requested wasn't available, they manager was very accommodating and worked with me to reschedule it's use.She was pleasant to deal with and exercised getting me thru the registration process proficiently. The rates could be a little better but I'm not complaining due to the facility (pretty nice and very clean!) and the security. I'd really like to see 24 hour access but I'm sure that would increase rates and insurance dramatically. Overall, I'm very satisfied with the facility and my service agreement.
