This is one of a series of articles spotlighting our storage facilities and neighborhoods.
Like so many suburbs of New York City, New Rochelle offers quieter living, easy access to the city, and a great family environment. However, that only begins to explain this bustling suburban city of 80,000, affectionately nicknamed New Ro. The downtown boasts of a metropolitan feel with city views if you’re lucky; the historical district showcases the rich past of the new nation; the waterfront provides 9 miles of serenity and nature.
New Rochelle resides within Westchester County, one of the wealthiest counties in the nation; so while much of the population consists of Manhattanites transplanting to the ‘burbs to settle down in a single-family home, square footage is still hard to come by. Many residents opt to live in one of the downtown’s upscale, NYC-style condos with gorgeous views of the Long Island Sound or even the Manhattan skyline. Others are willing to pay a little more money for a little more space in an early- to mid-1900s home on a quiet, tree-lined street. Either way, it’s likely that newcomers will have to settle for a little less square footage than anticipated in order to be in this highly desirable area.

Don’t be fooled by New Rochelle’s Main Street; this is no typical downtown. High-end businesses and restaurants have flocked to this burgeoning little city bringing residents the amenities of New York City with the hometown feel of Main Street, USA. For business owners, a self-storage unit can offer the extra room needed to store inventory, paperwork, and unused furniture for a fraction of the cost of upgrading to a larger New Ro commercial space. Our professional shredding services and lobby workstations with free Wi-Fi can be a distraction-free spot to crank out some work with access to your belongings in your unit.
Our bilingual team aims to make your move as smooth as possible. Recent Customer Pgautieri wrote, “We reserved a storage unit online and went to the office to pay and sign contracts. Lauren took very good care of us, explained everything and answered our questions. She even suggested how to pack the unit for easy access to items. The facility is clean and appears to be well maintained.”
How to Get to Us
If you’re the rare New Yorker with a car, we’re just off Exit 16 on I-95. Otherwise, the New Rochelle train station, servicing the Metro North, is just a 5-minute drive from our CubeSmart store on Cedar Street. Here you can hop the Express for a 30-minute ride to Grand Central, or you can grab the 7, 30, 42, 60, 61, or 45 bus. Just down the road, the New Rochelle Amtrak station will bring you to Boston, D.C., and everywhere else along the East Coast.
General Manager Elizabeth explains, “If our Customer takes the bus or train to our store, I tell them that once they have gotten off, they will make a left. At the traffic light on the corner of North Avenue and Garden Street, cross the street and walk straight down the hill…we are located after the train tracks for Metro North and near the Shop Rite.”
If you have time to kill before a train or bus, grab a slice of pizza at Metro Pizza & Pasta or a warm bowl of ramen at Roc & Ramen, both about a half-mile from our store.
Did someone say pizza and ramen? Our CubeSmart store serves students from Monroe College, Iona College, and The College of New Rochelle whether they’re going home for the summer, taking an internship in another city, or just need to hold onto all those T-shirts from freshman year.
Around Us
Spend the morning moving so that you can spend the afternoon enjoying New Rochelle’s endless sights, bites, and fun. CubeSmart General Manager Elizabeth reveals that the area’s best kept secret is the 105-acre Glen Island Park and harbor, explaining it “is the spot to be in the summer because they have fireworks at night.” Part of the greater Five Islands Park, Glen Island Park lines the coast and offers boat launching, picnic areas, and lots of rich history.
For more history, take a walk in the past with the Historical District walking tour. You’ll travel through decades of history through architecture and landmarks like the New Rochelle Train Station, which can be attributed to the boom in this city.
After a long day of moving and sightseeing, get a bite to eat at the New Rochelle Diner on Main Street where Elizabeth recommends capping off the day with one of their delicious burgers.
