This is one of a series of articles spotlighting our storage facilities and neighborhoods.
At first glance, The Bronx neighborhood of West Farms seems oddly named. Just 10 miles outside New York City, this area is hardly comparable to great expanses of wheat and corn; however, West Farms’ unique location does stand out as a quieter, more natural setting in the middle of a sprawling city.
This community is wedged between the Bronx Park and the Bronx Zoo to the north, the Bronx River to the east, and Crotona Park to the west, creating a little urban oasis. And, while industrialization ran its course through The Bronx, this neighborhood is slowly entering a new phase of embracing and preserving the natural areas it shares. With affordable rents, a short 35-minute commute to Midtown Manhattan, and natural space unheard of for the city, West Farms is becoming a great place to settle as a single or family. Reduce your environmental footprint with a cozy West Farms apartment and keep your seasonal items and outdoor gear in our West Farms self-storage facility.
CubeSmart can assist with any size move. For just a few items, utilize our free move-in truck; for larger furniture, we offer a Super Move truck and driver. If you’re moving a whole apartment of belongings, let our partner Simple Moving Labor (SML) take care of the heavy lifting and logistics. If you’d rather be fishing along the Bronx River, we’ll accept the delivery of your belongings to our Boston Road store and you can keep peace of mind knowing we have 24-hour video recording. Our bilingual General Manager and the rest of our team is experienced in the oftentimes tricky and stressful process of moving:
“I have moved from NY to Massachusetts. And from Massachusetts I moved to Puerto Rico…But cubesmart staff has been very co-operative with me through the process and very courteous.” –laloca
“This facility is literally across the street from where I live. I was able to rent a space and move my things in the same day. The transaction was even more awesome because it was soo [sic] easy and fast. Best of all the space was nice and clean and bigger then [sic] what I expected it to be. Great job” –ash5198
This store is conveniently accessible by public transportation. Hop off the 2 or 5 or take the 19 bus at 174th Street, just 1 block from our store. Even closer, the 21 bus drops off just outside our store at the intersection of Boston Road and Vyse Avenue. Fordham University students appreciate that our store is only 2 miles from campus, so they don’t have to waste precious summer time trying to find a place to store their dorm stuff.
We’ll help you move your belongings indoors, so you can spend your time outdoors. Crotona Park is a massive oasis offering anything you could want in a park. Yankees fans can play ball on their open baseball fields and enjoy a grilled dog or burger in the barbecue areas. With handball, basketball, and tennis courts, as well as huge playgrounds, it’s hard to believe this park’s main feature is actually a lake. In the heart of The Bronx, Crotona Park’s 3.3-acre lake is host to fascinating wildlife and peaceful fishing. Want the water but with a little more activity? Stop by the park’s 300-foot public pool and spend hours on a sticky summer day in the pool’s spray showers and fountains.
Admire nature through the arts at the Bronx River Art Center (BRAC), less than 5 minutes from our self-storage facility on Boston Road. The non-profit art studio and gallery serves artists, youths, and the general West Farms area by encouraging engagement and revitalization of the community and environment surrounding them. Last summer, The Economy of Food exhibition explored topics of food systems, surroundings, and sensibilities through photography, videography, and performing arts.
The BRAC has also been host to the Bronx River Sights & Sounds Festival. Showcasing diverse music and performing arts, this month-long summer festival brings eclectic performances of different music genres to West Farms and other venues throughout the surrounding neighborhoods.
While nearly two thirds of the West Farms population is Hispanic, importer and distributor Gustiamo brings a taste of Italy to the area. This upscale company imports gourmet olive oils, pastas, tomatoes, and sweets from authentic culinary artisans throughout Italy. While their business is wholesale, they offer individual sale so you can try their products right at home in your West Farms apartment as well as in a NYC restaurant.
