New Yorkers, especially Brooklynites, don’t like to believe that Queens can be cool, too. Adding a twist to the iconic brownstones of Manhattan and Brooklyn, this neighborhood is known for homes of yellow brick. Around Us
Our bilingual manager Elvis can attest to Ridgewood’s diverse community. While recent years have witnessed a growing Latino population, the area continues to have a strong Polish community. In fact, just five minutes from our store, St. Matthias Church hosts Catholic services in Polish, as well as German, Spanish, and English. Built in 1909, St. Matthias Church is a beautiful place to stop after a morning move into our Ridgewood self-storage facility. Even if there isn’t a service, the church features intricate dome ceilings and original features that are too stunning to just walk by.
For more history, head ten minutes from our store to the Vander Ende-Onderdonk House. Dating back to 1709, this colonial cottage is the oldest Dutch colonial house in NYC. While it appears small on the outside, inside you’ll find history, art, and culture exhibits. The large property frequently hosts large private and community events, as well. During the summer, catch the Out in the Streets music festival, showcasing unique musical groups and an artisanal market to shop local crafts.
For more shopping, the areas surrounding Fresh Pond Road and Myrtle Avenue have everything you could want or need. If you work up a hunger, Joe & John’s Pizzeria is also on Myrtle Avenue, less than a mile from our store, and dishes a perfect New York slice. Or for a juicy stuffed burger, walk one block from our store to Satyr Grill, where you can find a satisfying menu of Greek-American bites.
How to Get to Us
Take the L to Halsey Avenue, then walk just two blocks along Wyckoff Avenue and our store is on the left.
If reading about the L feeling nauseated, don’t fear. In case you missed it, New York’s Metropolitan Transportation Authority recently announced that the L train will be shut down from Manhattan to Bedford Avenue in Brooklyn, beginning in 2019 and lasting 18 months. While under repair for the tunnel’s Hurricane Sandy damages, remember that the L will still run from Bedford Avenue to the Halsey Avenue stop. Or, with our free move-in truck, the L drama is but a distant concern.
